List for the Scottish Album of the Year announced

Few of the top names in the Scotland music scene are set to fight it hard for the country’s most wanted album of the year title. Idlewild, Paolo Nutini, Belle & Sebastian, Mogwai and King Creosote are among the participants for the Scottish Album of the Year honor.

The winners of previous year – hip hop band Young Fathers, are all back in contention after their success in Mercury Prize months after getting SAY Award. Indie faves Withered, The Phantom Band and The Twilight Sad have also made the list in the 4th year of the competition.

Other players on the longlist are electro outfit Errors, Celtic supergroup Treacherous Orchestra, burgh-born singer-songwriter Blue Rose Code, Ayrshire rockers Fatherson and dance music pioneers Slam and Highland fiddler Mike Vass.

The twenty shortlisted albums would be available to stream one of the twenty longlisted albums every day from Monday of next week before a public vote starting on 25th May.

Scottish Music Industry Association’s Stewart Henderson said that with another great list to promote, the SAY Award is coming into its own as one of the most unique and progressive music prizes in the United Kingdom.

He added that by encouraging the public to listen to all twenty albums and hopefully getting something new and exciting in the process, it shows Scotland’s extraordinary musical output as well as reinforces how important it is that they value their artists’ work and support them.
